Should You Place a Formal or Informal Memorial in Your Garden?

Many people chose to create memorial gardens in honour of their loved ones who have passed away. Putting together a growing and living memorial is a great way to remember the person you love. There are some things to think about when it comes to building a memorial garden that you will need to think about.

What Type of Memorial Will You Place in Your Garden?

Some people chose to go with a more formal headstone or bespoke stone in their garden. Others choose to go with a less formal piece. Maybe they chose to have a rugged cut rock engraved instead of a polished stone.

Here are some questions that you should ask yourself when trying to decide what type of memorial you should go with.

What Type of Memorial Would Best Represent Your Loved One?

A lot of people will consider the type of memorial they use based off of the personality of the one they are honouring. Would something more formal best suit who they were? Or would something that is artistic and unique be a better option?

What Look Are You Going For in Your Garden?

You can base your memorial of choosing off of the look you are going for in your garden. The type of flowers and layout you choose can be complemented by the piece you place in your yard.

If you are going with wrought iron trellises and white stone benches, something more formal would be a good fit. If you are going with rustic wooden trellises and ivy, you would be able to go with a less formal memorial.

Where Will You Place the Memorial?

Once you figure out what type of stone you will use, deciding where it will go is the next step. Consider if you place it in the center of the garden where it can be easily viewed. Maybe you will consider placing the memorial off center and feature other parts of the garden in the middle.
Whatever you choose will certainly honour your loved one with a memorial. Putting together a garden that you can visit is a great way to walk the path of healing and hope after the loss of a loved one.
